In 2020, I started HOCUSPOCUSMD in the hope I could improve access to healthcare services for patients wherever they might be. I believe that the combination of telehealth with augmented reality, point of care ultrasound , and telepresence can result in quality interactions that meet and even exceed our current face-to-face model of office visits. I am available to perform medical consultation on patients if you are a healthcare system or healthcare professional or a patient and would like medical consultation services via the HOCUS POCUS model.
I am a board-certified Infectious Diseases physician based in Omaha, Nebraska since 1989. During my career I have provided clinical consultation services and maintained a basic science research program for 17 years in my role as a Creighton University School of Medicine faculty member. Interests include the use of technology in teaching such as animated avatars and natural language engines, the pathogenesis of bacteria/host interactions using digital confocal microscopy and computerized image analysis, telemedicine, and disaster preparedness. I am currently working on innovative approaches to incorporate augmented and virtual reality in my areas of interest. I also have taught and continue to teach medical students, residents, and fellows. I have gained considerable leadership experience in my roles as Director of the Creighton University School of Medicine Adult Infectious Diseases Fellowship program, Chief of the Creighton Adult Infectious Diseases division, Co-director of the Center for Preparedness Education, and Service Line Chief of Medicine at VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. Hobbies include digital painting, VR painting, VR sculpting, and writing AR applications for Microsoft HoloLens/iOS/Android platforms.
